Cheti Chand – The Sindhi New Year Day – Birthday of Lord Jhulelal, Deity of Sindhi community is celebrated in unique and unparallel style at Akola Maharashtra. Here this is neither a half day nor affair of a whole day asCheti Chand is celebrated in most parts of the world.

Since the 2004 Late Dada Bannaram Parvani, who was President of Pujya Sakhar Panchayat has laid down a new tradition of celebrating Chaeti Chand, he with the help of other Sindhi Panchayats of Akola has founded a special committee titled “Jhulelal Mahotsav Samiti” to chalk out multi day programs and take care of each program to mark the celebrations associated with Jhulelal Jayanti with active participation of sindhi community specially Sindhi Youth of Akola.

audianceThis tradition is still there and this year Jhulelal Mahostav is celebrated from 26 March to 08 April. The celebrations are started with sports like Volleyball and Cricket tournament. This is the success sign that presently not only sindhis of Akola but also of near cities like Washim, Nagpur etc are eagerly waiting to participate in this Mahostav. This year’s Jhulelal Mahotsav includes programs like

All the programs are arranged at Sant Kanwar Ram Premises Sindhi Colony Akola where Jhulelal Samiti has made arrangements for seating of nearly 2,500 audiences besides the Guest. This year President of Jhulelal Samiti Gopi Dhanwani has taken additional efforts for making the celebrations huge and memorable by inviting young Sindhi eminent performs like Jatin Udasi. This year’s Cheti Chand celebrations will also be remembered for involvement of Mother sindhi_natakDaughter pair of Sou Komal Sadhwani [Sabhapati of Rangoli competitions] and Dr. Pooja Sadhwani both are not just part of Samiti but also the instrumental force for ever high participation by Sindhi girls and house wives of Akola in all events of Jhulelal Mahotsav Samiti.

A Grand procession of Bahrana Sahib is Scheduled on the April 08, the day will start with worship of Water God Lord Jhulelal at 8:. 30 A.M at Sant Kanwar Ram Premises and procession will start at 12 noon. The route of procession is S S D Dham – Pensionpura – Kachhi Kholi – Jhulelal Pani Poi [Mian Road] – Bhagatsingh Chowk – Aalsi Garden- Ashok Vatika – Bus Stand – Gandhi Road – Sarafa Bazar – Old Cloth Market – Tilak Road – City Kotwali- Government Garden – Nanak Nagar – Nimwadi – Morana River. During the procession Sindhi youth will present traditional Sindhi folk Dance “Chhej” and at Old Cloth Market Mahaaarti of Jhulelal Sahib ji will be performed so the citizens of Akola get chance to become familiar with Sindhi cultural heritage.

Certainly all the members including Gopichand Dhanwani [President], Brahmanand Valecha [Secretary], Anil Pariyani [Treasurer] and many others along with all the members of all Sindhi Panchayats functional at Akola, deserve a real congratulation from the global sindhi community.
