Gurunanak Jayanti is considered as a Punjabi Festival celebrated to mark the birthday of Adi Guru Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji but as in undivided India Punjab and Sindh were adjoining areas so there is very high number of Sindhi families who follows teachings of Guru Nanak Dev so Guru Nanak Jayanti become important Sindhi festival. On this day in the most of cities of India having Sindhi population huge celebration is made at Darbar where Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib are having residence. Like the Punjab this day is celebrated in the cities having sindhi Population with full of enthusiasm and devotion.
Guru Nanak Jayanti – Gandhinagar Kolhapur
Here at Gandhinagar, Kolhapur the day is undeclared holiday for the commercial activities of Sindhi Samaj. On the day, at central Panchayat building, after recitation of Gurbani from Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, Bhog sahib is performed and community lunch [Aam Bhandara, Lungar] is arranged. The celebration goes on till the Chhati [sixth day of birth] and various Darbars [Gurdwara] are decorated with lights and Bhagats are arranged to mark the celebrations.
Bhakati Dham [being looked by Bhai sahib Murlidhar Jagyasi] and Kanwal Dham [Bhai sahib Hariram Hazurani] are famous for celebrating Guru Nanak Jayanti at Grand scales. Among the other cities of Maharashtra, where Sindhi community celebrates Guru Nanak Jayanti, Nagpur is more famous for Prabhat Pheri and grand style of celebrating the day.
