At first instant it will appear that we are reading list of carious courses of a Medical college but when our attention gets diverted to city /country name with every degree we realised that we are reading list of academic qualification of a Doctor. Padma Shri Dr. G S Sainani is the most glamorous illustration of dedication, hardworking and desire of top position attitude of Sindhi community. It is quite amazing to locate such long list of expertise in many and diversified field and awards associated with a single person. A Medical researcher and General Practitioner, Cardiologist Dr Gurumukh Sajanmal Sainani is also honored with status of Honorary Brigadier.
Biography – Dr. Gurumukh Sajanmal Sainani
Born on 28 March 1931 at Larkana Sindhi Dr. Sainani has spent his most of childhood days at Kambar a taluka place in Larkana. He was the youngest children of his parents and his father, who was a bank manager dies when he was just three-year-old. He passed Matric as the student of A V Muncipal School Kambar with distinction and got admission at D J Sindh College Karachi. This was the around the June 1947 when he reached Karachi and found a room at Metharam Hostel, In the August 1947 a rumour was spread regarding setting the hostel under fire, he decided to move to India with mother, one of his cousins working at airport informed him about five free flights to India, so instead of waiting for other brother sister he along with mother was on the flight.
After reaching Nagpur, where the plane landed, he spent a few months at camp constructed for Sindhi migrants but soon got a rented quarter from the servant quarters of bungalow of Balani family. It was December 1947 by this time but still he managed to get admission at Science College at Nagpur but only after recordation of Minister and passing the entrance test. He passed the Inter Science with distinction and with highest marks in Chemistry, this brought first moment of pride for him as during convocation Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru handed over him the award.
He got admission at Grant Medical College Mumbai also but decided to stay and study at Nagpur Medical College just only from point of view of economical affordability. By this time his married sister Kala Chhugani , whose husband was working in Post & Telegram Dept. Shifted to Nagpur from Karachi so he left the servant quarter of Balani family and started living with her. He completed his M.B.B.S. in 1954 and M.D. 1958 from the Nagpur University. Since the time after the six months of his admission to M.B.B.S. he was getting two scholarships one from the college and other National Scholarship from government.
After completing M.D. he started working as the Professor but very shortly in 1959 Public Service commission exam was conducted for the Post of Reader at Mumbai, he appeared along with two of his teachers and to surprise of all he was the only one selected. Dr Sainani has worked at Grant Medical College and Sir Jamshed jee Jeejeebhoy Group of Hospitals and was elevated to Head of Department of Medicine at the age of just 32 years. By this time his marriage [on 18 May 1963] was arranged with Dr. Pusha Dudhani from Grant Medical College Mumbai.
Being Head of the Dept. He decided to go for higher educational qualification and subsequently went on acquire MRCP from University of London in 1968. Before that he studied Cardiology at Chicago in the capacity of student and visiting professor. During his service he worked as the Director Professor of B J Medical College Pune and Dean and faculty at Pune University. In the 1979 he decided to take pre mature retirement and joined Jaslok Hospital Mumbai, which was started in 1975, in the month of July 1979.
During his stay [1973-1979] at Pune he guided the students from the armed forces for the post-graduation and in the capacity of Dean recommend for the start of Post Graduate Course at Medical Colleges of Armed force. His selfless service was felicitated by honoring him with title of Honorary Lieutenant colonel in 1979 as he kept on rendering free service and guidance even after being in Mumbai through Ashwini Hospital so in 2000, he was showered with rank of Honorary Brigadier.
Besides working with Jaslok Hospital Mumbai, Dr Sainani has also worked as Emeritus Professor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Director of the All-India Heart Foundation and as the fellow of medical institutions around the world.
Dr G S Sainani has not written a few books but also a lot as his name as writer is appeared more than five hundred times in different periodicals. He is very good and effective speaker also and has nearly five hundred occasions of being the key / guest speaker. He is Emeritus International Adviser of RCP London.
Considering his contribution government of India has honored him Padma Shri Award in the years 2000. During his long-illustrated career, he has been awarded several [more than 20] awards including prestigious Dr. B. C. Roy Award, from the Medical Council of India.
Presently Dr. Sainani is living with family at Mumbai and working at Doctor House and Sainani Medicare Clinic in Pedder Road and Sainani Medicate Clinic in Haji Ali. His daughter Renu, also doctor is happily married and living at Melbourne Australia. His son Rajesh and Daughter-in-law both are practicing Doctors and living at Mumbai.

Famous and popular Sindhi folk singer Bhagwanti Navani is eventually immortal as she even after losing the physical existence still alive at hearts of thousands and thousands of Sindhi music lovers. Often called as Sindhi Koyel Bhagwanti was born on 01 Feb 1940 at Nasarpur. Undisputed queen of Singing Sindhi Lada (marriage ritual songs) Bhagwanti will always be remembered for singing Sukhamani Sahib (Guru Bani) in Sindhi. She also acted in Sindhi film Sindhua Je Kinare. On 22 Oct 1986 she left for heavenly abode.
