About Junagadh Sindhi Community

In Hindi language “Juna” means old and “Gadh” means fort so we can say this city is old fort, which in modern times populated in various areas such as M.G. Road, Kalwa Chowk, Gandhigram, Zanzarda Road, Talaw Darwaza, Bus-stand, Sakkar Baug, Timbawadi, Joshipara and Girnar Taleti. At the time of partition inclusion of Junagadh to India was under cloud of suspect but on 7 November 1947 it become part of India. There is Swami Lila Shah Wadi in the city which is considered as the residential area of Sindhi people.

Estimated Sindhi Population of Junagadh is Ten thousand. About 1400 Sindhi families are living at Junagadh Gujarat out of these Sindhi families almost fifty percentage of Sindhi population of city, nearly 700 are associated with Lad Lohana community. On the bases of this higher ratio of population Ladi Lohana Panchayat Junagadh is the dominating factor as for as Sindhi events and celebrations of the city are concerned.
