In the Hindi film industry of India, the name Sippy is looked as the person with great talent, innovative ideas and assured success. Sindhi is Bollywood are also known for the surprise element and performing tasks in unusual way. Indian Film lovers were surprise to learn that film Shimala Mirchi (2020) is directed by Ramesh Sippy. Just imagine how it is return back to work after a gap of twenty-five years, as last film directed by Ramesh was Zamana Deewana release in 1995, even his last produced film Sonali Cable was released in 2014 so Ramesh was back in action with gap of a decade. If Ramesh Sippy is back to action let us hope for yet another Sholay.
About Ramesh Sippy
Ramesh Sippy, the son of one of the most successful producer Directory of Hindi Films G P Sippy, was born on 23 Jan 1947 at Karachi. He was just 6 years old when he entered on the set of a Hindi Film, it was shooting of his father’s film “Sazaa” and he was there as a visitor. Soon he started working in film industry as just three years after his first visit to a film set, he played role of son of Achla Sachdev in the film “Shashenshah”.
The person who started filmy career after assisting for seven years, to his father – well known Producer Directory G P Sippy, in the 1971 with Direction of Film “Andaz” a super hit film with Stars like Shammi Kapoor, Hema Malini and Rajesh Khanna.
This was the Sholay released in 1975, which not just opened the success gates for the Ramesh Sippy but also proved a mile stone movie on the box office, though now the box office success of Hindi movies is measured in collection Hundreds of Carores of Rupiees but still Sholay is the standard whose reference comes in the context when there is talk about the box office success of a Hindi Film.
After the Sholay, Ramesh went on to Direct “Shaan” in 1980 and this time also Film was with stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahi Kapoor, Sunil Datt, Shatrughan Sinha, Bindya Goaswami and Parveen Bobi but like the Sholay’s Gabbar Singh highlight of the Film was the “Shakal” a villain role played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda. “Shaan” proved a mile stone film for Mazhar Khan for his role of “Abdul” in the film but this film has also established Ramesh Sippy as the Director of Star.
Year 1982 proved yet another mile stone achievement year for the Ramesh Sippy as he brought two most popular stars and actors in his Film “Shakti”, veteran actor Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan who was not just super star at that time but also was known for his acting talent and considered as the assurance for the box office success of a Hindi Film. Cine lovers are still watching this movie just for the acting clash of Dilip Saheb and Big B.
Ramesh Sippy went on to bring back the teen age silver screen romance of Rishi Kapor & Dimple Kapadia [Debut Film Bobby] in the Film “Sagar” released in 1985 and looked as the comeback Film of Dimple.
Beside the Films Ramesh Sippy also Directed “Buniyad” one of successful Television serial, telecasted in 1987 on Door darshan. The serial was based on the subject of Partition of India. After the box office failure of Bhrashtachar (1989), Akayla (1991), and Zamana Deewana (1995) Ramesh Sippy has almost quitted from the Direction.
In the year 2003 he returned back to silver screen of Bollywood but this time as Producer for the Film “Kuch Naa Kaho” Directed by his son Rohan Sippy. 2008 released film “Chandni Chowk to China” with star cast of Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and directed by Nikhil Advani is the last Film Produced by Ramesh Sippy which brought box office glory, though he also produced Film “Dum Maro Dum” again Directed by his son Rohan Sippy but the Film didn’t prove notable on box office.
In the 2005 Ramesh Sippy was Felicitated with prestigious Film Fare Award for the Sholay- most successful Hindi Film of last 50 years. He is also recipient of “Padma Shri” the one of the highest civilian awards of the country. The announcement of which was made just 48 hours after the 66th birthday of Ramesh Sippy.

Famous and popular Sindhi folk singer Bhagwanti Navani is eventually immortal as she even after losing the physical existence still alive at hearts of thousands and thousands of Sindhi music lovers. Often called as Sindhi Koyel Bhagwanti was born on 01 Feb 1940 at Nasarpur. Undisputed queen of Singing Sindhi Lada (marriage ritual songs) Bhagwanti will always be remembered for singing Sukhamani Sahib (Guru Bani) in Sindhi. She also acted in Sindhi film Sindhua Je Kinare. On 22 Oct 1986 she left for heavenly abode.
