Biography /About - Dr. Baldev Matlani
Dr. Baldev Matlani born on 01October 1951 is one of the famous Sindhi writers, teacher of the recent time. He holds credit of being first Sindhi teacher who had both M.A. and Ph.D. in Sindhi. After completing M.A. in Sindhi in 1973 he completed M.A. in Economics in 1975 and Diploma in Higher education in 1979. At the time, when he was working as Lecturer in Sindhi at R K Talreja College [Jr. College Section] Ulhasnagar. He was offered a promotion by the Jai Hind College Mumbai for teaching at Degree classes; he worked there from 1981 to 1988 and even being in service went on to complete his M.Phil. in Sindhi in 1985.
He started working at Department of Sindhi, University of Mumbai, after completing his Ph.D. in Sindhi, first as the Lecturer, then Reader and afterwards as the Professor. He was Head of Department of Sindhi at Mumbai University, from 13th April, 1994 to 6th July, 2001.
Baldev Matlani is considered as the Multi-talented teacher who had expertise in Sindhi Medieval Literature and Criticism. He not just known as the writer but is also associated with All India Radio as the presenter of Sindhi program on the casual bases where as he is an approved Drama Artist since 1984 and has participated in many TV and radio plays.
Baldev Matlani has also worked as the Executive Chairman, Maharashtra State Sindhi Sahitya Academy [2000-2005]. Some of other posts held by him are Chairman, Sindhi Section, Bal Bharati, Maharashtra Bureau of Text Books & Curriculum, – Chairman, Board of Studies in Sindhi, Mumbai University. He has fame of presenting timely well studied paper at various occasions some of such are:

Besides writing in Sindhi, English, Urdu, Hindi and Marathi language Baldev Matlani also worked as Editorial Consultant & Photo Editor for Mumbai based English Magazine “Sindhi Shaan” published quarterly.

Often called as Sindhi Koyel Bhagwanti was born on 01 Feb 1940 at Nasarpur. Undisputed queen of Singing Sindhi Lada (marriage ritual songs) Bhagwanti will always be remembered for singing Sukhamani Sahib (Guru Bani) in Sindhi. She also acted in Sindhi film Sindhua Je Kinare. On 22 Oct 1986 she left for heavenly abode.
