Dal Pakwan is very much popular breakfast food not only in Sindhi homes but also all those who lives in Sindhi residential area. Usually Dal Pakwan available at food stalls located in sindhi residential areas of various Indian cities. Ulhasnagar, Mumbai, Indore, Ajmer, Kolhapur and many other cities are famous for the quality of Pakwan and variants of Dal, which generates mouth-watering fragrance.
Dal Pakwan Day
Considering the popularity of Dal Pakwan Sindhi people decided to increase its availability for all by celebrating Dal Pakwan Day every year on 11 April hence all the citizens of city can get chance to learn about this traditional Sindhi recipe, most popular breakfast. Sindhi food stall are erected at various places where along with Dal Pakwan some other traditional Sindhi food stuffs are also served .
Ingredients For Dal
100gm Chhana Dal, 2 Table spoon Ghee/Oil, 1/2 Table Spoon Red Chili powder, 1/4 Table Spoon Turmeric [Haidar] powder,1/2 Table spoon Garam Masala, One Boiled Potato, Water, Salt to taste.
Ingredients For Pakwan
200gm Maida [FLOUR], 1/2 Table Spoon Jeera, Salt to taste, Oil.
Cooking Process : Dal
Soak the Dal into water for 1-2 hours.
Boil Dal with turmeric powder & salt.
Add Red chili powder & Garam Masala.
Cut boiled potato into small pieces & add to Dal.
Spread heated oil over the Dal.
Decorate with tomato slices & Chopped Green coriander.
Tamarind water can also be used for taste.
Cooking Process : Pakwan
Mix salt & Jeera to flour use water to make soft pliable dough and keep for 30 minutes.
Make small pieces and round shaped puries from each.
Deep fry till Golden brown color.
Famous and popular Sindhi folk singer Bhagwanti Navani is eventually immortal as she even after losing the physical existence still alive at hearts of thousands and thousands of Sindhi music lovers. Often called as Sindhi Koyel Bhagwanti was born on 01 Feb 1940 at Nasarpur. Undisputed queen of Singing Sindhi Lada (marriage ritual songs) Bhagwanti will always be remembered for singing Sukhamani Sahib (Guru Bani) in Sindhi. She also acted in Sindhi film Sindhua Je Kinare. On 22 Oct 1986 she left for heavenly abode.
