Sindhi Poet – King of Sindhi Rubayi – Sindhi Umar Khayyam – Sahitya Academy Award
1978 Academy Award winner Dr. Harumal Isardas Sadarangani is not just the one of the famous Sindhi poets but this Sindhi literary personality who had used “Khadim” pen name has acquired the title of Sindhi Umar Khayyam. This might be the inspirational effect of Persian language on his writing that he had created a very effective way for his poetic expressions called Rubayi and become famous as the King of Sindhi Rubayi.
Biography / About - Dr. Harumal Isardas Sadarangani
Dr. Harumal Sadarangani who is more popular as H I Sadarangani was born on 22 October 1913 at Shahdadpur, Nawab Shah Sindh and worked as the Head of Farsi Language Department of renowned D J Sindh College of Karachi. Literary journey of his life was seeded when he was in the standard sixth only and has written an article on Sadhu Hiranand, for which he was awarded. In the Award set there was a book titled “One Hundred One Poems of Kabir” of Guru war Rabindranath Tagore and this proved the seedlings of Harumal being shaped as the one of most successful poetry writer of Sindhi literature. He was also a bit fortunate that during his studies at Hyderabad he was used to visit house of great Lekhraj Aziz and was presented with the opportunity of shaping his literary talent specially poetry in company of this legend of Sindhi literature.
Dr. Harumal Isardas Sadarangani is among the personalities from Sindhi literature with highest academics as he was not just acquired Ph.D. but was also have D.Lit. After completing his M.A. [Farsi] he started working at D J Sindh College. After the partition of the country Dr. Harumal Sadarangani started working as the Professor at college at Delhi. He was also worked for All India Radio as the supervisor of Farsi but this was not a long-term assignment. He has also served as the convener of Sindhi Advisory Board of Sahitya Academy and Chairman of Sindhi Department of Central Hindi Directorate of government of India.
His literary attitude started since the schooling remain under development even in college life as during those day, he had written a poem on life of Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This poem has opened gates of literary meetings and Mushaira held in local community where he got chance to interact with stalwarts of Sindhi literature like Parasram Zia and this has boosted his thirst of being the great like them. Though his language has a good influence of Persian but still he become Darling of Sindhi literature readers just for his Rubayi. Besides the poetry he has also shown his excellence in prose through his books like “Kakh Ain Kana”, “Persian Poets of Sindh” etc.
His extra ordinary contribution to Sindhi literature was recognized by Sindhi Sahitya Academy and his book “Cheekh” of courses a poetry collection he was honored with Sahitya Academy Award for Sindhi Language. Dr. Harumal Isardas Sadarangani, the King of Rubayi expired on 07 December 1992.

Famous and popular Sindhi folk singer Bhagwanti Navani is eventually immortal as she even after losing the physical existence still alive at hearts of thousands and thousands of Sindhi music lovers. Often called as Sindhi Koyel Bhagwanti was born on 01 Feb 1940 at Nasarpur. Undisputed queen of Singing Sindhi Lada (marriage ritual songs) Bhagwanti will always be remembered for singing Sukhamani Sahib (Guru Bani) in Sindhi. She also acted in Sindhi film Sindhua Je Kinare. On 22 Oct 1986 she left for heavenly abode.
