Biography / About - Ishwar Anchal
Ishwar Narayandas Sharma, a famous Sindhi poet using pen name “Anchal” or “Aanchal” was the one who bagged the 1997 Sahitya Academy Award in Sindhi language for his book “Taandaanaa Andheri Rat Mein” a collection of Gazals and Azad Kalams. He was born on 02 October 1928 at Karachi Sindh, now part of Pakistan. After migrating to India in 1947 Sharma family get settled at Ulhasnagar, Near Mumbai in Maharashtra.
In the entire fraternity of Sindhi literature, he was popular as Ishwar Anchal. Yogi Kavi was the other famous name of this popular Sindhi Poet and Short Story Writer. Most of the poems written by Ishwar Sharma can be considered as progressive Sindhi literature loaded with pessimistic attitude and it appears that while creating poems his thoughts get centred at the relation of soul and supreme soul. Probably this is the reason for which he was called as Yogi Kavi. Poems of Ishwar were also reflective of pain and agony of being forced to migrate and be rootless.
After seventy years of physical existence this Yogi Kavi of Sindhi literature expired on 05 July 1998.

Famous and popular Sindhi folk singer Bhagwanti Navani is eventually immortal as she even after losing the physical existence still alive at hearts of thousands and thousands of Sindhi music lovers. Often called as Sindhi Koyel Bhagwanti was born on 01 Feb 1940 at Nasarpur. Undisputed queen of Singing Sindhi Lada (marriage ritual songs) Bhagwanti will always be remembered for singing Sukhamani Sahib (Guru Bani) in Sindhi. She also acted in Sindhi film Sindhua Je Kinare. On 22 Oct 1986 she left for heavenly abode.
