Sindhi people often say that division of country in 1947 was the toughest and most suffering for the Sindhi community but today when I look at the what Sindhi community had got as the result of all the agony, suffering and pains from point of view of Sindhi literature, I dare to differed with them. Teen aged Sindhi like Laxman Bhatia have utilised all those suffering as fuel for creative literary expressions. Laxman Bhatia, a Sindhi poet, a Dramatist and a journalist has used his creative skill to being the Sindhi folk stories like Sorath Raidiyach, Moomal Rano & Suhini Mehar in opera format and presented as Stage Drama. The intensity of his contribution to Sindhi Language, Sindhi Culture and Sindhi literature reflects from the fact that he has bagged three Sahitya Akademi Awards.
Biography / About - Laxman Bhatia Komal
A very popular face of Sindhi literary world, Academy Award winner famous Sindhi poet and journalist Laxman Bhatia “Komal” was born on 26 March 1936 in Nawab Shah District Sindh. He was just 11 years old at the time of migration of Sindhi to India. He went on to complete his graduation [B. Com] and also got Diploma in journalism.
Laxman Bhatia has worked with Times of India Delhi and retired recently being the Chief Sub editor. He is renowned Sindhi poet who even have mastery in Children literature and translation. Laxman Bhatia has also credit of bringing the Sindhi folk tales Sur Sorath, Moomal Rano & Suhini Mehar (Folk Tales) in opera format and has presented more than 25 shows at Mumbai and Delhi. He also staged a few one act plays and one full length Sindhi play so we can say that Laxman Bhatia is multi skilled personality famous as Sindhi poet, Journalist and Dramatist. In the 1976 Sindhi Sahitya Academy has honored him by awarding prestigious Sahitya Academy Award for Sindhi Language his Sindhi poetry collection “Jee-a-Jharoko”.
Certainly, it is sheer talent of Laxman Bhatia that he is among very rare Sindhi Personalities of Sindhi literature who are honored thrice by Sahitya Akademi as in 1965 bagged Sindhi Sahitya Academy’s
Children Literature Award and in 1997 Sahtiya Akademi Translation Award was bagged by Laxman Bhatia. He has also written his biography which was published in Hindi and in two parts with title Bahi Khate Ke Panne. Laxman Bhatia “Komal” has also worked as Jury Member for Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2011 of Sindhi Sahitya Academy along with Shri Hari Himthani and Dr. Prem Prakash. He Died on 23 December2014.
Literary Contribution
Laxman Bhatia “Komal” has enriched Sindhi literature not just by his poetry but also by translation work from other languages. He wrote his biography in Hindi with title Bahi Khate Ke Panne. Some of the more popular books of Laxman Bhatia are listed below.

Famous and popular Sindhi folk singer Bhagwanti Navani is eventually immortal as she even after losing the physical existence still alive at hearts of thousands and thousands of Sindhi music lovers. Often called as Sindhi Koyel Bhagwanti was born on 01 Feb 1940 at Nasarpur. Undisputed queen of Singing Sindhi Lada (marriage ritual songs) Bhagwanti will always be remembered for singing Sukhamani Sahib (Guru Bani) in Sindhi. She also acted in Sindhi film Sindhua Je Kinare. On 22 Oct 1986 she left for heavenly abode.
