Biography / About - Laxman Dube
Laxman Dube born on 15 March 1942 at Khairpur Sindh as the son of Amrumal Daryanani, has just entered into sixth year of his age when in 1947 family was forced to migrate to India. The Ship anchored at Veraval and family got residential block at Bantva in Junagadh district of Gujarat State.
Laxman still remember those days of non-comfort and agony at Bantva as he was finding attraction for studies & family situations were demanding his participation in cloth business family started here. Fortunately, he learned about Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti Wardha so paying attention to family business he got way to satisfy thirst of his soul. Passing exam one by one finally Laxman Dube become Rashtra Bhasha Ratan. He also passed in Sahitya Ratan exam of Hindi Sahitya Samiti Priya raj and Sanskrit Sahitya Ratan of Jamnagar Vidwat Parishad. This was around 1960 that Narsingh Vidya Mandir – a high school – started there and Laxman Dube was offered teaching job. This was first time that teen ager Laxman was feeling soul satisfaction.
Sindhi Surname and Sindhi Nukh
Before we go to pleasant part of life of Laxman Dube, let us get clarification about the two doubts most minds have. First one, how a Dube become awardee of Sindhi Sahitya Akademi because Dube Surname is not indicating Sindhi person and second one, sons name is written as Laxman Dube and fathers name as Amrumal Daryanani, how it become possible. Actually, for both doubts, one common answer is there and it is hidden behind Sindhi tradition. In Sindhi families every family have one family name [Surname] and one Nukh. Laxman’s family name is Daryanani and Nukh is Dube. Over the generations his family is using Nukh Dube as surname. To bring this system of Nukh & Surname of Sindhi families to minds of younger generations of Sindhi community, I purposely wrote it in this way.
Laxman Dube – Education – Family Business & Sindhi Literature
At Bantva family business of cloth was not running in smooth way so around 1964 Laxman Dube shifted to Rajkot, where he started biscuit factory but within three years around 1967, he shifted to Mumbai and started the current business he is involved with that is building construction and finance. During all these years he kept his studies as during the teaching days at Bantva he came to know that Banaras Hindu University is allowing for graduation exam to those who are in teaching job and have completed age of 18 years, hence by 1967 Laxman Dube has not only passed B.A. but also M.A. from the university.
