Introductory
Certainly, for the most of common people this will be threatening and abhorrent scene to see a young man drinking water from a Guttar [open Drainage line] but when this happens with Dr. Bharat Vatwani a miracle started to took shape. He took the young man to his centre at Karjat and in very short period of treatment allowed Dr. Bharat to learn that young man is science Graduate and native of Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Bharat and his life mate Dr. Smitha had not stopped only with providing treatment for early recovery of young man but efforts started to located his family and make his settled with family again.
About Dr. Bharat Vatwani – 2018 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee
Surely this is one of the finest moments for Sindhi history in India as, Karjan -Mumbai based Sindhi psychiatrist Dr. Bharat Vatwani selected for the Ramon Magsaysay Award 2018 [26 July 2018] This award is considered as the Nobel Prize of Asia. Before going directly to life and work of this great Sindhi social worker Dr. Bharat Vatwani let us start with incident that proved the foundation for establishment of Sharddha Rehabilitation Foundation Karjat, an NGO by Dr. Bharat Vatwani and his wife Smitha Vatwani and brought this recognition in the form of Magsaysay Award for their efforts of helping mentally disturbed young citizens and bringing a bridge for their reunion with own family.
Born on 17 June 1958 at Mumbai Bharat Vatwani get inspired with work and dedication of Baba Amate. Dr. Bharat a psychiatrist by profession was well aware of the fact nearly 10 Lakh Indians are falling prey to Schizophrenia – a mental disorder and are from the age group of 16 to 30 – every year. There are inadequate hospitalization facilities and even lack of family care in most cases specially those who unknowingly move away from home town. Inspired from Baba Amate Dr. Bharat decided to dedicate life for this fortunately his thought got supported by his wife Dr. Smitha Vatwani. They thought of starting a rehabilitation centre at Dahisar but failed to establish because of objections of local citizen. Finally, they moved about 100 KM away from Mumbai and centre was started at Karjat.
In 2006 they started NGO Sharddha Rehabilitation Foundation and a rehabilitation centre with capacity of accommodating 120 patients at a time. Records of foundation are witnessing for the treatment of 5489 patients who are resettled with their families also. According to Dr. Bharat for the current year tally is 485. Reacting to press in an interview after the announcement of award Dr. Bharat Vatwani said when he informs Dr. Prakash Amate about award on phone the reply was “Bharat You Deserve It.” and these four words of appreciation are more valuable for me than award itself.
Dr. Bharat Vatwani – Personal Life
On the personal life side Dr. Bharat Vatwani is fan of all Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, his dream holiday destination is Kashmir and he love to enjoy Maharashtrian food. Dr. Bharat and Dr. Smitha are not just working in tandem for the cause but also enjoying their work and this enjoyment is key to their success story. Couple is blessed with two Children One Daughter and One Son.
Famous and popular Sindhi folk singer Bhagwanti Navani is eventually immortal as she even after losing the physical existence still alive at hearts of thousands and thousands of Sindhi music lovers. Often called as Sindhi Koyel Bhagwanti was born on 01 Feb 1940 at Nasarpur. Undisputed queen of Singing Sindhi Lada (marriage ritual songs) Bhagwanti will always be remembered for singing Sukhamani Sahib (Guru Bani) in Sindhi. She also acted in Sindhi film Sindhua Je Kinare. On 22 Oct 1986 she left for heavenly abode.
