Sindhi Singer – Mahesh Chander
Sindhi community is worldwide famous for making miracles happenings of their day-to-day life. This legacy of Sindhi community is brought to reality once again by popular Sindhi Singer, composer, master of Urdu poetry and Music Shri Mahesh Chander. This is facts that being son of legendary Master Chander, music and singing are soul and blood for Mahesh Chander. Born on 03 September 1942 at Tharushah District Sindh, Mahesh was brought to India even before going to school for formal education but it doesn’t prove hurdle for him to release “Silsila Zulf ka jab Rokh pe bikhar Jata hai” his first song record with HMV in 1965.
Mahesh Chander - Singing Career
Recalling to his childhood days once he had said “I never came to know that my father Master Chander was training me in field of music and singing, all I remember that Since I was of 7 or 8 years, he used to ask me to sing a song during his program.” Surely this is most difficult to carry legacy of legend like Master Chander but fortunately continuous practice [Riyaz] and soft, Silky, velvet voice of Mahesh has helped him to become popular Sindhi Singer with exceptional expertise in Gazal Singing. In the later part of his life, Mahesh has learned lessons of classical music and Gazal Singing from legends like Pandit Lakshman Prasad and Singer Madan Prakash.
HMV, the famous music company has credit of releasing “Silsila Zulf ka jab Rokh pe bikhar Jata hai” of Mahesh Chander in the year 1965. Afterwards he signed a twelve yearlong Singing contract with HMV and starting from film “Maikhana” he sung Gazals for more than 25 movies. This was the title of “Pathron ka Shehar” music composition of Usha Khanna which brought tremendous popularity for Mahesh Chander. He was keen to make a professional career in field of Gazal Singing and Urdu Music Industry but on persist of father he recorded “Suj Ubhar na toon, shal raat huje” his first EPE record in Sindhi. Success of this not just established Mahesh as popular Sindhi singer but also generated desire of carrying his father’s legacy of Sindhi Music.
Mahesh Chander has created a group and started presenting professional Live Concert even abroad. He was receiving invitations from various organisations and have visited Honk Kong, Japan, Manila, Singapore, Jakarta, Colombo, London, Spain, Dubai, Africa, America and Canada for more 50 such successful concerts.
A few years back Tips another music company of Bollywood has released his audio cassette “Mahesh Chander Sings Kalam of Master Chander” which become record breaking popular and generated thirst not only among the younger Sindhi generation to listen more songs of Master Chander but also forced Mahesh to concentrate more on his father’s singing and Sindhi Music. He also has credit of composing music of few Sindhi films like “Hik Galh Ta Budh” and “Mili Veyee”. Mahesh was part of Sindhi Film “Shal Diyar Na Jaman” as playback singer and part of many television programs of Doordarshan.

Famous and popular Sindhi folk singer Bhagwanti Navani is eventually immortal as she even after losing the physical existence still alive at hearts of thousands and thousands of Sindhi music lovers. Often called as Sindhi Koyel Bhagwanti was born on 01 Feb 1940 at Nasarpur. Undisputed queen of Singing Sindhi Lada (marriage ritual songs) Bhagwanti will always be remembered for singing Sukhamani Sahib (Guru Bani) in Sindhi. She also acted in Sindhi film Sindhua Je Kinare. On 22 Oct 1986 she left for heavenly abode.
